Since 1992, Ontario Children's Aid Societies have been involved in a public education program to inform the community about how to prevent child abuse and neglect.

The duty to report child abuse is defined in Ontario's Child and Family Services Act :

"if a person has reasonable grounds to believe that a child may be in need of protection, the person must report the information and suspicion upon which it is based to a Children's Aid Society."
